Freedom of Information Act
On January 1, 2010, Public Act 96-0542 became law. The new law amends the Open Meetings Act, the Freedom of Information Act, and the Attorney General Act. This law changes the codification of the Public Access Counselor and makes changes to the Freedom of Information Act.
The changes made to FOIA are both sweeping and complex. The Illinois Municipal League has created this section on our website to educate our members about the significant changes to FOIA. This section will also serve as a general resource for information concerning compliance with the new law. The IML will continue to add information that is deemed explanatory, helpful, and relevant to the efforts of local governments that are seeking to comply with the new FOIA law.
